Meera Banerjee (a) MBans as she was fondly known by MBites was an amazing person by nature. She has been one of the few persons I look upto in my life. Have always admired her for her charisma, boldness and the command she had over the girls, riding the cycle at her age, you name it I admired it all.
If the 11 pm to 6 am rule had to be enforced within MB, it cud have been possible only by her vigilance. Being so far away from home, she was family to us. She knew exactly when to be polite and when to be hard on us just like our parents would have been. She had to take care of not just one or two child but 1000s of us. Whew thats a big number.
She was respected not just because she was the warden, but she was more than that to many of us in MB. A friend and guide in true sense. She was always there for the gals be it any time of the day. Her care and warmth made us feel much better at times of crisis.
One of the funniest experience was in our psenti sem when me and my wingies were busy ragging freshers. Being psenti semites we just wanted to "interact" with the gals as we didnt wanna pass out without the feeling not being able to ask anyone's intro either. It was almost half past 11 and nearing midnight. One of the freshers started crying and we also got the news MBans was on her rounds. So we had to make sure that those gals leave before she was in our wing. Everything passed on fine the gals went back. The next day MBans enquired us casually, that she was hearing to lot many complaints that freshers were being ragged by gals in our block. Should have seen our faces then. We told we will surely find out and let you know maam!!! She was so confident that we wudnt be the ones ragging them and wanted our help. After which we never ragged anyone!
I am sure each and every MB ite will have their special moment with MBans. There will be none who hasnt felt her presence.
Her loss is something that is incomparable and no one can fill that voidness. The Meera in MB has left forever for heavenly abode. May her soul rest in peace...
